I know there are some IT Oppos and very computer savvy folks and Im desperate for some help.
My dad’s computer (couple year old Lenovo running Win10) that he uses for his small business is royally FUBAR'd . It will not access the network/internet - drivers are installed, hardware is good, cable replaced with a known good one, nothing works. It stopped working ~April 13. On April 11 I beleive there was a Windows update push that some people have had problems with that causes this kind of thing, particularly if you use a VPN, but he doesn’t. Regardless, I worked through the troubleshooting steps with no luck.
I tried to rollback the Windows updates because that’s a thing, but it doesn’t work. Im at the point I think its time to reset, but I wanted to back all his files up first to be safe. I stick a USB drive in, nothing happens, it doesn’t recognize it. We go down the street to the drug store and get some blank CDs since it has a CD/DVD-RW. Guess what? Doesn’t recognize the blank disc and I can’t drag/drop files on the drive.
I finally say screw it and plough ahead with Windows Reset... it doesn’t work. It thinks for a bit, and then it just says it can’t Reset. Wtf?
Any thoughts or ideas? I brought my Win10 laptop with me, can I create a boot disc or something on my laptop?

Try removing completely the lan drivers, I suppose this is a desktop?
Quick solution is install a wifi pci or USB. Or just a plain old network Card. Should be able to find for under 20$ easily
When you plug in the cable do the network card? Does the computer give you an IP address and do any other computers have access to the internet if you are behind the same setup

My suggestion would be to see if the Microsoft stores offer something like Apple’s Genius Bar.
It occurs to me that if it’s a traditional hard drive, you may be able to remove it from the laptop, put it into a hard drive enclosure, and mount it on your computer to at least recover all of its data.
Good luck. Sounds perfectly awful.

Download Windows 10 media creation tool and rufus on your computer. Insert at least an 8GB usb drive. Install and open rufus. Format the USB drive (make sure it is NTFS). And use the .iso that you downloaded. Then boot to the USB drive on the bad computer. Go through the steps to in stall the OS fresh. Make sure you get your windows Activation key before you start the process as well.

See if the OS has System Restore enabled (I think Win10 enables it by default, though I can’t verify). If so, Windows Update typically creates a restore point prior to installing updates. Thus, all you have to do is restore to a point on April 10 or earlier.

You’ll need to stick in the Windows 10 boot USB and likely press a key to access a boot menu to tell the machine to boot from that flash drive. The key to press just after you hit the power button to turn it on and are seeing the BIOS Logo screen varies from company to company. What model of Lenovo is it?
Are you sure the USB stick you grabbed actually functions? Did you try more than one?
Is this network internet connection wireless or hardwired?

Thanks! I tried that, it looks enabled but doesn't seem to have any restore points available.

I tried the drivers. The desktop has built in WiFi too, which also doesn't work.

Thank you.
Will the fresh install overwrite the whole drive, or is there a way to save his files? Its basically just whats in the Documents and Downloads folders, probably only a few hundred MB worth of stuff.
